The Body Shop Aloe Soothing Day Cream

The Body Shop Aloe product line is known for non-toxic ingredient lists. Most of the products I have tried are really good, too.

Aloe soothing day cream is a good moisturiser, and it's light and non-greasy at all. It makes the skin soft and non-shiny, and it would work fine if you wear foundation on top. It has no smell.

The cream is listed in Skindeep and has a score of 1, which means low hazard. It was last updated in 2013 - since then there was only one ingredient added, and a harmless one too.

The ingredients:

Aqua/Water (Solvent/Diluent), Isononyl Isononanoate (Emollient/Skin Conditioner), Glycerin (Humectant), Pentylene Glycol (Solvent), Cyclopentasiloxane (Skin-Conditioning Agent/Emollient), Butylene Glycol (Humectant), Cetearyl Alcohol (Emulsifier), Myristyl Myristate (Emollient), Sesamum Indicum Seed Oil/Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil (Emollient), Cyclohexasiloxane (Conditioning Agent), Cetyl Alcohol (Emulsifier), Myristyl Alcohol (Emulsifier/Emollient), Palmitic Acid (Surfactant), Stearic Acid (Emulsifier), Cetearyl Glucoside (Surfactant), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Skin Conditioning Agent), Myristyl Glucoside (Surfactant/Cleansing Agent), Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer (Stabiliser/Viscosity Modifier), Bisabolol (Skin Soothing Agent), Xanthan Gum (Viscosity Modifier), Avena Sativa Kernel Extract/Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract (Antioxidant).

Only one of the ingredients has a score above 2 in Skindeep, i.e. can be hazardous.

  • Myristyl Myristate has a score of 3 which makes it low to medium hazard. It's linked to irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), organ system toxicity (non-reproductive), persistence and bioaccumulation. No cancer, no reproductive toxicity. It's an alright ingredient.

As you can see, it's a nice product. It's pleasant to use and it won't drain your budget. Recommended.
