Environmental Working Group Database is the most useful resource when it comes to safe cosmetics. Using their search engine, you can find information on ingredients and products, which are awarded a hazard score. The score can be from 0 to 10, where 0-2 means low hazard, 3-6 moderate hazard and 7-10 high hazard. The resource is great to check for ingredients and get a feel for safer brands. However when it comes to particular products, many of them are not listed, and the ones that are listed, are often hard to find in the shops, at least in the UK. EWG is an American organisation fighting for environmental safety, including cosmetics and food. They have lots of great stuff on their website – check them out.
